Goodyear to end conveyor belt work at Ontario plant; Move follows factory closing in Georgia.

Goodyear Engineered Products will cease conveyor belt operations at its Bowmanville plant by April 2004, largely because of overcapacity and a drop in demand.

The Goodyear division will discontinue production of rubber-coated fabric-reinforced and steel-cable conveyor belts and relocate its steel-cable belt equipment to an unnamed factory, according to a Goodyear spokesman. That segment accounts for most of the production at the 320,000-sq.-ft. Bowmanville site.
