Intel will lay off 159 workers from its Folsom offices near Sacramento over the next several months, according to a report, bringing to the total number of workers in that area to be laid off to 350.

Of those laid off, 117 will come from Intel’s information technology department, according

to a report in the Sacramento Business Journal.  The layoff is part of the company’s ongoing workforce reduction that is coming as part of its restructuring efforts http://www.edn.com/article/CA6328802.html?partner=enews. Intel began informing employees late last week that their jobs would be terminated, a spokeswoman told the SBJ. The spokeswoman said the layoffs are redeployments, meaning that workers can look for other work within Intel. If they do not find another position in two months, their employment is terminated. Employees are expected to be informed by Oct. 27 as to whether their position is one of those being eliminated.

The Folsom office employs about 7,000 workers, according to the report.

Of the 159 new lay offs,  31 workers are from the Digital Enterprise Group, 10 in the technology and manufacturing group and one in Intel Capital, according to the report.
