Planning for 2008 and beyond.

Dear Members,

With the holiday season upon us, it's a great time to reflect on our accomplishments and good fortunes at work, at home, and in the other parts of our lives. It is also a time to set in motion our plans for the upcoming year.

As you may know, the consume-owned

public power industry is facing a critical shortage of engineering talent. To help address this shortage, NWPPA's past presidents are working on a project to encourage member utilities to hire engineering students for summer internships.

A great way to find an engineering student for a summer internship is to attend a college job fair. On the adjacent page, you will find a list of colleges and universities that are planning job fairs over the coming months. Please take a look at this list and see if there are any job fairs scheduled in or near your community.

Additionally, we encourage you to talk with your utility decision makers about sending an employee to participate in one of these job fairs and to recruit an engineering intern to work at your utility during the summer of 2008.

If you do decide to send an employee to a job fair, please contact Ruth Manning at NWPPA at (360) 816-1447. She has some materials that provide ideas on how to promote employment in our industry; these materials may be helpful in your recruiting efforts.

Thank you for supporting NWPPA programs and services during the past year. Together, we have accomplished a lot that has improved our industry.

By working together on internship projects and other programs in 2008, we can continue to help ensure the success of our industry and the communities served by public power utilities.

From the NWPPA staff, "Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year!"

Will Lutgen

NWPPA Executive Director
