Experience Inc. Research Finds November is the Most Popular Month for Students to Find Holiday Jobs
BOSTON -- Now's the time to promote holiday jobs to college students. In a recent survey conducted by Experience Inc., the nation's leading provider of career services for college
Forty percent of college students cited their desire to make extra money as the key driver for working over the winter break, and 22% of students will use the time to gain work experience. Most students, 78%, also expect to work within commuting distance from home. It is for this reason that students evaluate positions based mostly on hourly rate (28%), location (22%) and type of company (18%).
Employers looking to hire students during this three- to four-week college break should promote their jobs using messages that align with these factors. They should also utilize the same resources that students say they use to find holiday jobs, including: online job boards and university career centers (34%), word of mouth from their friends and family (31%) and on location advertisements (19%).
"Since more than 40% of students reported that they don't even start looking for a job until November, there is still time for employers to recruit," said Jennifer Floren, founder and CEO of Experience, Inc. "College students are hard working, responsible and open to short-term employment opportunities. They provide an excellent solution to seasonal employment needs and this research shows how important it is for organizations to reach out to college students on many different levels."
