Paducah, Ky., Companies Hope to Recover in 2004 from Manufacturing-Job Losses.

Jan. 1--PADUCAH, Ky.--An improving economy should mean a brighter 2004, but several looming issues may set the tone as the Paducah area tries to recover from thousands of manufacturing jobs lost in the past three years.

-- USEC Inc. is expected to announce this month whether it will build a 500-job gas centrifuge plant in Paducah or Piketon, Ohio, starting about 2010.

Piketon has the edge, and if Paducah loses, the burden increases to find work options six years from now
