HP Encourages African American Students to Pursue Degrees in Higher
Education, Gain Insight Into Careers in Business and Technology
What: HP's Black Employee Forum will host a half day event themed "Changing the World Begins with You" for local African American high school students to encourage and expose them to career possibilities in the business and technology industries while motivating them to pursue college after graduation. When: March 27 Details: Bay Area students will participate with HP Black Employee Forum members in interactive workshops that simulate real-world professional experiences, such as career options, salary negotiations and budget issues, to help prepare them for life and financial independence after high school. Students will be welcomed by HP Vice President and Director of the Printing and Imaging Research Center at HP Labs, Howard Taub, and then will attend workshops titled "Real-World" and "College and Beyond." Students will have the opportunity to view past inventions and products by HP at a mini-product fair to spark creative career interest. Stefan Goldstone -- PK "DJ Sake-1," professional hip-hop educator, performer and international human rights activist -- will be the keynote speaker and address the students about how teens can participate in promoting knowledge, unity, community, social justice, respect and love. A lunchtime performance will be provided by Youth Speaks, the premier youth poetry, spoken word and creative writing program in the country. Youth Speaks has helped spark the next generation of poets and writers lightening up stages and pages in all corners of the land.
