American Airlines' Parent AMR Forces Out CEO.

Apr. 25--The board of American Airlines parent AMR Corp. forced the resignation of Chairman Don Carty on Thursday and replaced him with Gerard Arpey as chief executive, sources said.

The board named Ed Brennan, the former chairman of Sears, as chairman of the board, overseeing an airline that remains in serious financial jeopardy.

The dramatic moves represent a last effort to restore trust among employees and avert a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
