Tips To Consider When Shopping for Business Insurance

If you're shopping for business insurance, here are some tips to help you out.

I don't know anyone who gets pleasure out of shopping for business insurance. But it's a big necessity to help your business continuity should something happen in your business.

So here are some tips from NetQuote to help you navigate the maze. (Take some time to browse the free downloadable tips guide too!)

  • Shop before you drop. Surprisingly few people shop around when it comes to insurance and most people aren’t aware they can switch at ANY point in a policy without penalty.
  • Obtain at least three quotes from business insurance companies. Some may offer special packages. With comparison aggregators like NetQuote.com, business owners can re-bid online. By filling out a single application and comparing quotes, apples to apples, they can save immediately.
  • Reevaluate what you need. NetQuote just put together a free downloadable guide to business insurance with tips, definitions and helpful information for small business owners on what types of coverage they really need. Below is the link to the guide.
  • Gauge your insurance company’s flexibility. Some insurance companies may be more willing than others to tailor your policy to help control costs without giving up valuable coverage or incurring costly penalties for underinsurance.
  • See if you can save with a package deal. Business Owner’s Policies (BOPs) combine property and liability. A policy like this can offer tremendous savings over purchasing the same types of coverage separately.
  • Remember that insurance companies reward clients who have numerous policies with them. So ask about multiple‐policy discounts, keeping in mind that personal insurance coverage may help you earn a multiple‐policy discount.

The last thing you want to do is to have a disaster in your business and lose everything you've worked so hard for. But I know many small business owners who skip having insurance at all. And in my book, that's a mistake. What do you think?
