Sep. 15--Mortuary tables changed last spring -- for the first time in more than 20 years -- and the fact that we're living longer may make it cheaper to buy life insurance.

Rates are predicted to come down as much as 30 percent for some term policyholders over the next year, industry experts surmise. The tables will primarily affect new business, however. Other types of insurance, such as whole-life, will see some decrease in costs, but it isn't clear yet by how much.
