For insurer, Texas deal just a start
The dealmaking isn't over for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois.
The state's largest health insurer - which last week announced its merger with Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Texas - is looking to add five or more merger partners in an attempt to become a national managed care powerhouse.
The strategy is designed to greatly expand Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Illinois' reach geographically in the next two years. The target customers: large employers among the Fortune 500 that increasingly are buying health insurance coverage
