Industry cooperatives make insurance history; member retailers should benefit from reduced...

In an unprecedented move to provide their retail members with broader property and casualty insurance coverage at stable, long-term, competitive rates, several hardware cooperatives have signed an agreement to authorize a single insurance program. Cotter & Company, SERVISTAR Corp., Coast to Coast and Hardware Wholesalers Inc. are the founding cooperatives.

The cooperatives were not required to make a capital investment in the new company, Member Insurance Ltd., which is closely based on the former Cotter Member Insurance Ltd.
