Mary Ann Hack is director of the Indiana Long Term Care Insurance Program, an innovative partnership

between the state and private long -term care insurance companies. Indiana is one of only four states to have developed such a program, which helps Hoosiers protect their life savings from the high cost of long-term care.

Hack has held her post since 1995 and has made significant strides.

Since the program started in 1993, the number of companies participating has increased from eight to 17, and policy sales in 2001 were 1,750 percent higher than in 1993. As of the end of 2001, more than 19,000 policies had been purchased.

From 1992 to 1995, Hack was state coordinator of the Senior Health Insurance Information Program through the Indiana Department of Insurance.

Prior to that, she worked one year as an employee assistance counselor at Fairbanks Hospital. From 1985 to 1991, Hack was director of the Work Activities Center for the Hooverwood Jewish Home for the Aged.

She is now involved with the Long Term Care Insurance Educational Foundation, the Indiana Department of Insurance's Examination Review Committee and Phi Beta Kappa.
