Edmonds, Wash., Hospital Fired Chief Executive as Operating Losses Surfaced.

Feb. 11--Stevens Hospital's recent firing of Steve McCary, its chief executive of 14 years, came less than a month before the staff will complete crunching the numbers on its fiscal 2003.

Though representatives of the Edmonds hospital have said McCary's dismissal Jan. 29 was unrelated to any single management decision, the leadership change has occurred as Stevens prepares to announce 2003 operating losses estimated at $900,000.

McCary will receive a severance of nearly $1.2
