Protection switch

PROVIDE AUTOMATIC PROTECTION SWITCHING at the DS1 level for the Larus line of digital microwave radios, Larus Corp. has introduced the Model 5702 RouteSwitch, a diversity-protection device that can be utilized to configure both route-diversity protection and frequency-diversity

protection transmission systems. The Model 5702 RouteSwitch is used as a peripheral device for microwave radio systems operating in the ISM frequency range. It provides improved performance for low- to medium-capacity, point-to-point short- and medium-haul applications. Required at each terminal end, the Model 5702 automatically restores traffic to the primary route when the transfer causing failure is cleared.

Faster downloads

NETWORK AND STORAGE ADAPTER CARDS and software increase the amount of data that servers can handle and accelerate the flow of information from a server's hard drive to the end user. Lucent's OptiStar product line directly links servers to optical IP networks, enabling PC users to download high-bandwidth files at rates up to 50 times faster than current corporate network connections. Lucent's OptiStar series replaces a 45-Mbps connection with a 2.5-Gbps fiber link--a 50-fold increase in speed. As a result, service providers and enterprise customers will be able to integrate WANs and LANs into an optical area network. The OptiStar OC48 is an IP network adapter card. Other products in the series--OptiStar OC12 and FC1000R adapter cards, as well as Replicator and MediaServe server software--will be available soon. The OptiStar EdgeSwitch, an IP-based switch, will be available by the second quarter of 2000.

Extender card

USERS REMOTELY LOCATING their interface point, such as a video monitor, keyboard, mouse, or serial port, from a computer or a computer farm might find the extender card from Crystal Group, Inc. to be the ideal solution. The Datareach extender card is a half-length card that fits in any expansion slot on an ISA or PCI motherboard. Without taking any additional rack space, Datareach utilizes a single, common CAT 5 twisted-pair network cable between the computer and the Cybex receiver unit. The extender card reduces physical and network security risks.

Integrated access devices

BRING COST-EFFECTIVE VOICE, VIDEO, AND DATA services to small, medium, and large sites. Mariposa Technology has introduced two new products, the ATX 50 and the ATX 150, that expand the range of sites to which carriers, enterprises, and institutional customers can extend their integrated networks. The ATX 50 is a 1U device that can handle from as few as four to as many as 30 voice channels, plus H.320 video, Ethernet, and Frame Relay data, over a single scalable ATM network interface. The ATX 150 is a 2U device that also supports voice, video, and data and includes additional expansion slots that allow the unit to handle up to 90 voice channels. Its scalability makes the ATX 150 ideal for medium and large sites.

Router connections

ROUTER DELAY SIMULTOR (RDS) from East Coast Datacom allows router-to-router connections at data rates up to 2.048 Mbps while simulating network delays. User-selectable delays are for both data and control signals and range from five milliseconds to approximately 1,250 milliseconds in five-millisecond increments. The RDS allows users to test and preconfigure routers (with software applications) and other critical DTE equipment for reliable network operation while simulating network delay times.

The RDS has individual data interfaces that allow V.35, RS-530, RS-422/449, RS-232, and X.21 connections. The data interfaces may also be mix and matched, such as V.35-to-RS-530 connection. The unit is supplied in a sturdy metal enclosure and is 115/230VAC selectable for AC power input.
