Gigabit over copper

HP PROCURVE NETWORKING has developed a module that delivers Gig-over-copper technology. The Hewlett-Packard ProCurve Gigabit UTP switch module uses easy-to-install copper cable at a price point roughly one-third of HP fiberoptic connections. The module is intended

to substitute for Gigabit SX connections within wiring closets or between wiring closets at up to 100 meters. It provides an ideal solution as an interconnect between switches or switch to server. The ProCurve 100/1000Base-T switch module supports Gigabit Ethernet over Category 5 twisted-pair connections, as defined by the IEEE 802.3ab standard.

Punchdown system

MEET PROPOSED CATEGORY 6 requirements of TIA/EIA. Panduit's G/GA-PUNCH system offers 44% more capacity than existing Category 5 punchdowns, yet uses the existing 110 base footprint. GIGA-PUNCH is available in a high-density version or a standard-density version specifically designed for flat Category 6 cable. The complete GIGA-PUNCH punchdown system includes Category 6 bases with or without legs, 4-pair Category 6 connecting blocks, Category 6 patch cords, and labeling options. The bases feature strips that improve wire retention and wire cutoff. The system delivers Category 6 performance using discrete wire or patch cords and is suitable for voice or data applications.

Bundle support

FABRIC BUNDLE SUPPORT can be wall mounted, fastened to 0.25" or 0.375" threaded rod, or attached to an underfloor pedestal. ERICO has developed CAT425 to be the widest support fastener in its CADDY CableCat series. The CAT425 adjusts to a variety of sizes to 6" deep and holds up to 425 four-pair UTP or fiber-optic cables. A simple locking and unlocking feature allows easy addition of cables.

SINGLE-MODE TO MULTIMODE FIBER CONVERTERS support Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, ATM/SONET, FDDI, and token ring. Omnitron Systems' FlexPoint fiber converters extend Gigabit Ethernet network distances to 40 km over single-mode fiber. The FlexPoint 1000FF fiber converter supports Gigabit Ethernet networks and can extend distances 550 m via multimode fiber. Omnitron's fiber converters provide connection between different fiber types (single-mode and multimode), different wavelengths (SX and LX), and different fiber connectors (SC and ST). FlexPoint OC12FF supports ATM OC-12 and SONET and can reach distances up to 40 km with single-mode fiber and 550 meters with multimode fiber. For lower-speed environments, the FlexPoint 100FF for Fast Ethernet and the FlexPoint OC3FF for ATM OC-3 and FDDI support distances up to 58 km with single-mode fiber and 2 km with multi-mode fiber. These two fiber converters can also be used in Ethernet and token ring environments. KITCO's SMD fiber-optic termination kit is a multipurpose kit which allows the installer to terminate many different connector types.
