Springer has launched two new education titles. "Metacognition & Learning" is a new quarterly publication that addresses various components of metacognition, including awareness, experiences, knowledge, and executive skills. Papers cover fundamental theoretical issues, measurement issues regarding both quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as empirical studies about learning strategies, developmental issues and a teacher's role in metacognition training.

"International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning" covers all aspects of learning and education with the aid of computers and computer networks in distributed and non-distributed groups. It addresses the uses of CSCL in education, business and society in general, as well as the psychological, social and technological impact of CSCL on individuals, groups and society. The quarterly is targeted to professionals in the fields of education, computer science, information technology, psychology, communications, linguistics, sociology and business.

A new quarterly physics title, "Plasmonics," carries articles on the interactions of free-metal electrons, or plasmons. Topics covered include advances in the theory, physics and applications of surface plasmons in metals, nanotechnology, biophotonics, sensing, biochemistry and medicine. Content covers new plasmonic-based devices, new synthetic procedures for the preparation of nanostructures, properties of patterned materials and surfaces, and emerging applications.

The "Journal of Consumer Protection and Food Safety," from Birkhauser, is a new quarterly title that carries developments and information on all fields of food and feed, crop protection compounds, veterinary drugs and gene technology. The journal includes research articles, reviews, reports about administrative surveillance, and government reports and announcements.
