PRIMEDIA & BRILL CLOSE "BRILL'S CONTENT" AND INSIDE.COM.

In a story headlined "This Time We Really Mean It," Inside.com began its last day of operation by explaining the demise of Brill's Content magazine and Inside.com, print and online products that covered the business of the media. Co-owned by Steve Brill (51%) and Primedia (49%), the assets were

"victims of the terrible publishing and Web economies and a strained relationship between Brill and his major backer, Primeda."

The magazine was launched in late 1997 as Content and was designed to be a vehicle for media criticism while providing business coverage of the overall media industry. Since that time, the company launched Content-ville.com, a now-closed Web site that offered access to trade media, and purchased the subscriber list and Web site of Inside magazine. The title has undergone a number of format changes. It ended as a quarterly with a circulation of 250,000.

Inside.com survives as a Web portal for Primedia's Media Central publications such as Folio:, Cable World and Inside Book Publishing Report.

In the same story, Inside.com reported that Primedia was also seeking to sell other properties to ease debt. Assets mentioned for possible sale included Bacon's Information, Kagan World Media, Folio: and some Peterson consumer magazine titles.
