Earlier, McCall was publisher of Maryland's Linton Daily Citizen and was general manager of the Mid Valley Town Crier in Weslaco, Texas. ...

Editor-in-chief: At the Chicago Sun-Times, John Barron has been named editor-in-chief; previously he was executive managing editor. Barron started at Crain's Chicago Business as a graphics editor and later worked as an editor and senior editor at Detroit Monthly. He joined the Sun-Times in 1995 and was a business reporter, Sunday Showcase editor, deputy features editor and features editor. Also at the Sun-Times, Don Haynes has been named managing editor; previously he was managing editor for news, a job he'd held since 2003. Haynes joined the Sun-Times in 1982 as a reporter and also worked as city editor and metro editor. ...

Bartoske joined the paper in 1986 and was news editor, deputy metro editor and deputy managing editor before his 2000 promotion. A 25-year veteran of the paper, Kirby started out as a part-time sports reporter while still in college; earlier he was local news editor and assistant managing editor. Kirby replaces Ned Bristol, who's been editor of the paper since 1998; Bristol has been with the Sun Chronicle since 1972. Earlier in his career, Bristol was with Rhode Island's Providence Journal and the Morning Herald of Hagerstown, Md. ... At Pennsylvania's Indiana Gazette, William Kennedy has been named executive editor; most recently he was executive editor of Kansas' Topeka Capital Journal.
