Definitions for: Iceland Stock Exchange (ICEX)
Iceland Stock Exchange (ICEX)

established in 1985 as a joint venture of several banks and brokerage firms at the initiative of the Central Bank. In 1999, the exchange became a limited company and in 2002, it adopted the Icelandic name Kaupholl Islandshf. Trading has always been electronic. Companies may list their shares on either the Main List, which is an official stock exchange listing, or on the Alternative Market, which is a regulated OTC market. The exchange has been a member of the norex alliance since 2000. In 2003, the exchange listed Faroese bonds, which was a major step toward expanding the market, and is the process of listing Faroese equities and granting membership to Faroese financial firms. The exchange opened an ETF market in December 2004. www.icex.is.
