How Do I Write an Accurate Job Description?

* From  Date: Tuesday, February 20 2007

To find promising employees, you must first determine what you want them to do. Write a job description that includes all direct and associated responsibilities.

  • Be careful with general titles such as typist or sales clerk — they have different meanings to different people.
  • Be reasonable about your expectations. Setting the bar too high may limit your available talent pool; setting it too low risks a flood of unqualified applications.
