Facility management outsourcing is in. (News Extra).

Outsourcing of facility management functions is on the upswing. According to a survey conducted by FMLink (www.fmlink.com), there are now eight facility management functions being outsourced by at least 45 percent of the respondents, and some by as many as 72 percent.

The results reflect

an increased emphasis on reducing operating costs as well as the growth of the outsourcing industry that services these facilities. The study cites the top outsourced functions as custodial and housekeeping, design and architecture and landscape maintenance.

The survey also revealed that inhouse facility managers spend a significant amount of time managing outsourced contracts, ranging from at least 13 hours per month per function, to as many as 44 hours per month for some functions.
