Zimmer Inc. to expand Warsaw operations

Warsaw-based Zimmer Holdings Inc. announced plans to build a new multimillion dollar facility, expand existing infrastructure and add nearly 300 jobs to its local work force.

The $24-million investment will bolster the company's Warsawbased research and development capabilities and add roughly

275 jobs to its Warsaw operations. The new facility is expected to house new laboratories and workspace for Zimmer's corporate R&D group.

In addition to a new 99,000-square-foot facility, Zimmer will also renovate roughly 56,000 square feet of existing space to accommodate the company's continued growth. The state is expected to grant Zimmer about $5 million in tax credits and other incentives over the next decade.

"We conduct research and development around the world, but our largest concentration of resources is here in Indiana," said Ray Elliott, Zimmer's president, chairman and CEO. "These state incentives help to expand our efforts and made our decision easier."

The latest announcement of expansion and investment at Zimmer comes on the heels of a recently completed $64 million expansion of its operations in 2004.

Zimmer is a global leader in designing, developing and manufacturing a range of orthopaedic products, including reconstructive and spinal implants. It has operations in more than 24 countries and employs more than 6,500 people worldwide. More information on the company and its products is available online at zimmer.com.
