DOVER - On an average day, between 8,000 and 12,000 Kent County residents drive north to Wilmington or Philadelphia to their workplace.
This daily exodus of workers to high-paying jobs is something the county is hoping to halt with the development of Dover's Garrison Oak Technology Park.
"We want to use Garrison Oak Park to keep people in Kent County," said ,Daniel Wolfensberger, director of the Central Delaware Economic Development Council.
"We want to improve employment opportunities in the county."
Mr. Wolfensberger and other officials are hoping the Doverowned, 380-acre Garrison farm will bring high-paying-jobs to the county.
The Garrison farm was purchased by the city for $2 million in state funds in 1999 and was rezoned for a technologicalindustrial park.
The tract may be in store for some preliminary site work and a new marketing strategy in 2002.
The fiscal 2002 bond bill allocated $500,000 to bring utilities to the property and make it "shovel ready" regarding infrastructure, Mr. Wolfensberger said, and that could be done next year.
