WHO'S WHO in High Tech: Tyler Roye

As the President and CEO of Invision.com Tyler Roye, 36, has lead his company through the turbulent dot-com downturn into one of the last successful Internet companies on the Island.

Roye, who attended Long Island University's C.W. Post marketing and management program, left after three years

to pursue a life of entrepreneurship. He first owned a car phone business in the mid-80s when the technology was still young, then joined a day trading club with some childhood buddies - "which is when we uncovered this thing we called the Internet," he said. They decided to figure out a way to profit from the concept and decided on Web development. The partners borrowed the name of their investment club to form Invision.com in 1995. In addition to designing and hosting a slew of Web sites for Long Island companies, Invision.com has a regional search engine in LongIsland.com and an online staffing unit, LIjobs.com.

With an annual growth rate of between 140 percent and 200 percent per year over the past five years, Roye and his partners won the prestigious 2001 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year award. Invision has also been recognized for its growth by KPMG and is a finalist for Deloitte & Touche's Fast 50.

That growth, like almost every company in this economy, has decidedly slowed in the past year - revenue for 2001 is estimated to grow by about 50 percent to 60 percent, about half what the company forecasted earlier this year. But the company's survival through the dot-com downturn is testament to the strength of its management team.

The best part of his job, Roye says, is working with a dedicated group of people at Invision "who get the same satisfaction of getting the job done as I do."

Roye, a co-founder and vice-chairman of Long Island Software and Technology Network, lives in East Northport with his wife Kelly and their two children.
