Using critical thinking to teach empathy. (education in radiology)(includes bibliography)

A critical thinking method can be used to teach empathetic communication to radiologic technology students. A curriculum can include a two-to-three week unit in critical thinking, an entire semester class, or ongoing incorporation of critical thinking in the curriculum. Active participation from the students is required. One program successfully uses role-playing in which students enact scenarios where empathy and compassion are present or absent in radiographer-patient interactions. Debates and situational games may also be used.
