TUSTIN, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--March 7, 2002
Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. (TAMS), has been awarded a contract from the Defense Logistics Agency Support Center Philadelphia (DSCP) to supply its complete diagnostic imaging
It is estimated that the annual purchases of diagnostic imaging equipment will total $25 million.
Under the new contract (SP0200-02-D-8322), Department of Defense facilities, as well as other Federal hospitals, can purchase Toshiba's diagnostic imaging systems, such as CT, MR, ultrasound, x-ray, angiographic, cardiology and nuclear medicine equipment, through the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia. The contract covers a one-year period and may be extended up to five years.
This contract gives Defense and Federal health-care facilities access to Toshiba's full-line of diagnostic imaging products. This includes the Aquilion(TM) Multi-Slice CT scanner, the industry's most powerful CT and a system recently selected by four Veteran's Administration Medical Centers.
"The Department of Defense (DOD) contract provides the opportunity to expand the base of Toshiba imaging equipment installed at DOD medical facilities," said Gerie Goodstone, director of Toshiba's Healthcare Business Development.
"Offering a full product line of DICOM compatible systems, Toshiba has the capability to address the clinical needs of individual medical facilities, while also ensuring that the systems can be easily incorporated into current and future digital image management networks."
The contract also gives Department of Defense and other Federal health-care facilities access to Toshiba's ultrasound systems, which include the new high-end Aplio(TM), the cost-effective Nemio(TM) series and the compact JustVision(TM) series systems.
The all-digital Aplio and Nemio ultrasound systems provide harmonic imaging capabilities and are of particular value when scanning difficult-to-image patients. The JustVision 200 and 400 are compact, easy-to-use imaging systems which meet the needs of the labor and delivery hospital units and private OB/GYN offices.
Also available for the first time under Federal contract is Toshiba's Excelart(TM) series, the world's quietest MR system. The contract extends the offer of Toshiba's Opart(TM), open MRI system, and is the industry's only superconducting open MRI. The OPART's revolutionary magnet and open design allow for whole-body studies and scanning of diverse patients such as the claustrophobic, pediatric and obese.
Rounding out the Toshiba offering is the new Infinix(TM) Vascular angiographic and cardiology systems, radiographic and R/F systems and T.CAM variable angle, dual head nuclear medicine system.
The Defense Logistics Agency is a Department of Defense agency that annually provides more than $3.3 billion of food, clothing, textiles, medicines and medical supplies worldwide to America's armed forces and other non-defense Federal customers.
