Building One-to-One Relationships with Life-Long Patients

"You don't always have to suggest surgery to solve cardiac and vascular problems." That's the philosophy Dr. Carl Fier brought a few years ago to the cardiovascular program at The Elliot Hospital.

As one of the region's most highly trained and experienced endovascular specialists, Dr. Fier

helped to start the highly successful, state-of-the-art catheterization lab program offering acute MI and elective coronary intervention. He successfully pioneered The Elliot cardiology's vascular intervention program that simply does not accept that surgery is right time out.

To know Dr. Fier is to understand excellence at work. He completed medical school at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and stayed on to become Medical Chief Resident. There he worked alongside some of the brightest minds in cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Fier defined his career objective as one of identifying and treating cardiac and vascular issues before they became life or death problems, as well as providing traditional cardiac and vascular care

After training in medicine and coronary and peripheral vascular intervention over a period of eight years, Dr. Eier moved his wife and three children b/New Hampshire. He specifically chose The Elliot Hospital because of the reputation of his esteemed partners and now friends at New Hampshire Cardiology Consultants. Together, they have had a profound impact on the quality of cardiac and cardiovascular care in New Hampshire.

With their support and that of The Elliot Hospital, he was able to develop a large, state-of-the-art cardiac and vascular medicine interventional program offering cutting edge techniques and providing patients an alternative to more traditional vascular surgical methods. The success of the program has also led to the blossoming of new patient outreach and education programs, including vascular screening and peripheral vascular rehabilitation.

Today, even after over a decade of training and cardiovascular practice, Dr. Fier still enjoys the personal, one-to-one relationships he develops with his life-long cardiovascular patients. According to Dorothy Koch a patient of Dr. FieFs,., "I hope he never stops learning or caring the way he does, Who would have thought that I could have a vascular problem treated without pain or surgery? I'm right back playing golf and enjoying life."

"Remarkable" is a word many of his patients use to describe him and his accomplishments. His peers use words like "committed, brilliant, and down to earth," Everyone at The Elliot speaks of him as "refreshing."

Obviously, Dr. Fier is an "Outstanding Individual in Health Care." He's at the Elliot, and we're glad to have him.
