Crucial Medical Exams for Disability Benefits Often Cursory, Unconvincing.

Jun. 3--David Chandler's future was riding on his visit to QTC Medical Services in New Bern.

Chandler, a carpenter, had applied to Social Security for disability benefits because of back problems he said made it impossible for him to work. He had tried to work twice in the past few years but had to quit after a few days. His pain made it difficult to stand at the sink and shave, much less build houses. At 36, he was broke and living with his parents.
