retire at the end of this fiscal year. MEBTC has announced Florence
Johnson has been appointed to be Lindenauer's successor. Johnson
has been serving as MEBTC's senior vice president.
*Michael Phillips has been named CEO of Life Connection of Ohio,
Maumee, OH. Previously, Phillips was director of the Alabama Organ
Center in Birmingham. He replaces Lenora Geiger. *Michele Hooper has
been named president and CEO of the Stadtlander Drug Company,
Pittsburgh, PA. Previously, Hooper was corporate vice president of
Caremark International, and president of Caremark International Business
Group, Deerfield, IL. *Gertrude Elion has been chosen to become a
member of the Women in Science and Technology (WITI) Hall of Fame. A
recipient of the 1988 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, Elion is
scientist emeritus with Glaxo Wellcome, Inc. She is credited with the
synthesis and co-development of two of the first successful drugs for
the treatment of leukemia, as well as azathioprine, a drug widely used
to prevent the rejection of kidney transplants and to treat rheumatoid
arthritis. The WITA Hall of Fame was launched in 1996 to recognize,
honor and promote the outstanding contributions women make to the
scientific and technological communities and society at large.
