May 5--Alaska's North Slope crude oil fetched its highest price ever on open markets Tuesday, reaching $37.83 a barrel.
A recent surge in demand and continued unrest in the oil-producing nations of the Middle East have driven oil prices far higher than state forecasts had predicted just six months ago, and analysts expect oil prices to remain high in coming months, perhaps rising even further.
