The European Commission (EC) has cleared the proposed takeover of SSM Coal BV of the Netherlands by Germany's Rheinbraun Brennstoff GmbH. The EC concluded after an inquiry that the deal would not create competition problems in the European Union's petroleum-coke market.
Rheinbraun, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RWE AG of Germany, distributes coal and other solid fuels. SSM Coal trades hard coal and petroleum coke.
