DOD eyes supply chain changes.

A plan to reorganize the Defense Department's supply chain management will be completed within a few weeks, Federal Times reported.

The newspaper said DOD has formed an unprecedented partnership with the Office of Management and Budget and the Government Accountability Office to develop

Defense supply chain management has been on GAO's list of "high-risk" programs for 15 years.

The newspaper said the plan will have three broad goals:

* Capability to identify all DOD assets and incorporate that into the department's enterprise architecture and information technology modernization programs.

* Improve inventory management by scrapping unneeded supplies, making needed supplies more available and better forecasting future needs.

* Create a seamless flow of supplies to deployed troops.

Implementing the plan will require the department to develop integrated computer systems and to produce accurate financial data. Both have been problem areas.
