Federal procurement totaled $219 billion in fiscal 2001, up 7% from the year before, according to an analysis by Eagle Eye Publishing for Government Executive magazine.

Leaving aside big-ticket weapons and defense technology contracts, the study found these were the biggest spending

categories:

--Air courier services, $609 million;

--Teletype and fax equipment, $468 million;

--Office furniture, $410 million;

--Office machines, $319 million; and

--Duplicating machines, $267 million.
