AP--Arkansas Beer drinkers won't get a break, under legislation approved by the House on Monday. House members voted to make permanent Arkansas' a 3 percent excise tax on beer.
By a 64-25 vote, House members approved legislation to remove a sunset clause that would end a 3 percent excise tax on beer first approved four years ago. Legislators renewed the levy two years ago. The beer tax, which amounts to about 12 cents per $4 six pack, was first enacted in 2001 to offset budget cuts in preschool programs for poor children.
