Maine Ferry Service to Raise Fares, Screen Passengers.

Mar. 11--ROCKLAND, Maine -- Ticket agents will conduct passenger screenings and fares will jump 15 percent by July 1 when the Maine State Ferry Service complies with the new world of homeland security.

Jim MacLeod, manager of the service, confirmed Wednesday that the new security measures will include passenger, baggage and vehicle screenings, including identification checks.

He did not want to be specific about how and when those screenings would occur, sayi
