"I STILL remember the day my mother died. I was only 10 years old. I held
my younger brother and we cried for a long time," says Ha Thi Thu, a 19
year old girl from Son Lang commune in Quang Ngai province.
After her mother's death, Thu had to drop out of school for a year
after her father got married again and could not afford to support her
and her younger brother. "We have been living on favours from our neighbors
and support from relatives," she recalled.
After a year, she was accepted into th
