On July 27, Vietnam celebrates the 53rd Memorial Day, a day devoted to
the 1.1 million Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their
country and its revolutionary cause. Among those, some 300,000 are still
listed as missing-in-action - their remains have never been found. A further
l.8 million ex-soldiers are listed as war invalids. The title of 'Heroic
Mother' has been bestowed upon 41,000 women for their contributions to
