Schools making progress.

Byline: Antoinette Konz

Aug. 8--Students in almost every Montgomery public school met state and federal goals during the 2005-06 school year, according to accountability data released Monday by the Alabama Department of Education.

Eighty-three percent of Montgomery's 58 schools made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) this year, up from 36 percent last year and 19 percent in 2004. AYP, which is required under the No Child Left Behind Act, is defined as the minimum level of improvement in achievement that states, schools and school districts must make each year.
