Galileo lurches on; EU sole funder.(Jacques Barrot)

Public-private partnership (PPP), long the proud standardbearer for Europe's hopes for an independent satellite navigation system, was laid to rest in Brussels on May 16. European Union (EU) Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot made the announcement as he presented three options for the bogged-down Galileo project: a complete EU takeover, partial public financing, or total elimination.
