LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 23, 2000

George Alexander, former public affairs manager of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and science writer for the Los Angeles Times, has joined the strategic communications firm of Winner & Associates, a Publicis

Consultants company, as a vice president.

From 1988 to 1999, Alexander was the public affairs manager at JPL in Pasadena, the U.S. space agency's premier center for robotic space exploration. In that role, he was responsible for JPL's media relations, public services/guest operations and audiovisual services.

Alexander has also worked for both print and broadcast media, including the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek Aviation Week magazines, the PBS television series "Infinite Voyage" and National Public Radio. During his 13-year career as science writer at the Los Angeles Times, he wrote hundreds of stories on topics ranging from archeology to zoology.

Alexander earned many awards for science writing, including recognition from the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Westinghouse Corp., the National Institute of Engineers, the Aerospace Writers Association and the Atomic Industrial Forum. His professional peers elected him, at different times, president of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing and the National Association of Science Writers.
