WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2003
The American Center for Law and Justice, an international public interest law firm specializing in constitutional law, said today it plans to file an amicus brief in support of the U.S. Department of Justice in two cases
"Since September 11, 2001, the United States has been engaged in a global war on terrorism," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ. "The fact is that the United States is permitted to take action to protect the safety and security of all Americans. As commander-in-chief of the armed forces, President Bush acted responsibly in ordering the military to take such action regarding the detainees in Cuba. Further, the U.S. Courts do not have any jurisdiction in this matter and should not be permitted to be used to secure the release of these detainees. We will support the Department of Justice in the Cuba cases and will file briefs asking the Supreme Court to uphold the lower court findings in support of the U.S. military and the President."
The ACLJ said it will file friend-of-the-court briefs in the cases of Rasul v. Bush and Al Odah v. United States. The ACLJ is based in Washington, D.C. The website address is www.aclj.org.
