Merlin Wins Contract to Supply, Service It Infrastructure for NOAA CO-OPS Program.

WASHINGTON -- Merlin Technical Solutions, a leading federal IT solutions provider, today announced that it has been awarded a contract from the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS), of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), to recommend, install,

and maintain the agency's network operations hardware and software. This includes integrating existing hardware and software as well as designing and implementing computer programs to fulfill federal requirements.

"Several NOAA agencies, including the National Weather Service, rely on CO-OPS for fast and accurate information. The agency's IT infrastructure provides data that is essential for alerting the American public to severe weather patterns, such as major hurricanes," said John Trauth, executive vice president of government sales, Merlin Technical Solutions. "Merlin's professional services team has the experience required to support and maintain the caliber of network architecture required at CO-OPS to deliver this critical information."

Under this award, the Merlin professional services team will support and maintain CO-OPS' licensing information as well as provide systems integration services. The company will also manage daily administration of existing networking devices, Windows NT network, migration and management of Windows Active Directory network; administration of email and the LAN, including specifically supporting Windows servers, workstations, laptops, and remote access users.

The Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) of the National Ocean Service, an organization element of NOAA, collects current data as a part of the National Currents Observation Program (NCOP) at locations throughout the United States. The data collected and predictions derived are used to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally sound maritime commerce. These include data and products required by the National Weather service to meet flood and tsunami warning responsibilities, the National Water Level Observation Network (NWLON) and the national network of Physical Oceanographic Real-Time Systems (PORTS) in major US harbors.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a Commerce Department agency, conducts research and gathers data about the global oceans, atmosphere, space, and sun, and applies this knowledge to a variety of scientific disciplines. In addition to monitoring for dangerous weather patterns, the agency is also charged with protecting of oceanic and coastal resources as well as conducting research to improve and promote responsible stewardship of the environment.
