Music Holds Its Value
Reflecting a slumping stock market and economic jitters, several top lots at Christie's East entertainment memorabilia auction failed to find buyers. However, collectors apparently recognize the timeless value of things musical. Miles Davis's engraved Martin trumpet surprised auctioneers, drawing nearly four times its high estimate of $18,000, fetching $70,500 including the auction house's commission. A guitar owned by Rolling Stone Keith Richards also fared well, selling for $14,100 well over the estimated price of $3,000 to $5,000.
