Federal Government Spent More with SMB in 2009
According to a study performed by the SBA, the U.S. government significantly increased the amount of purchasing it made with small business owners in 2009 across 5 classes of small business.
Here are the five categories of small businesses tracked and the amount spent in 2008 and 2008. While the government hit their goal for procuring goods or services from small business in the category called Small Disadvantaged Businesses, they missed on the other four.
The SBA graded 24 federal agencies by how well they did in working with small businesses. The full report is available at http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/goals/index.html. Each agency was graded on a scale of A to F based on meeting each agencies goals for small business procurement.
There was a substantial amount of artificial federal stimulus dollars that affected 2009 numbers that won’t be there for 2010. Given the SBA’s slowness at compiling the data, we won’t know how well the federal government did for FY 2010 until about this time next year.
