Manufacturing Purchasing Plummets Again in May.

Jul. 16--Sales of metal-forming and metal-cutting machines -- used to manufacture everything from eyelets to automobiles -- fell again in May, continuing lows not seen in decades, according to monthly data released by two manufacturing trade associations.

Machine tool "consumption" in May totaled $140.8 million, down nearly 1 percent from April and down more than 36 percent from $221.3 million in May 2002, according to the United States Machine Tool Consumption r
