San Jose, Calif., Council Takes Step toward Allowing Gas Station Liquor Sales.

Sep. 17--Sending another message to businesses that San Jose won't stand in their way, a divided city council took a step Tuesday toward allowing gas stations to sell food and alcohol.
The council directed the city attorney to return in 90 days with a proposed ordinance that proponents say will increase competition, allow aging stations to rebuild and add to the city's sales tax revenue.
