Further American Airlines Cutbacks May Affect Kansas City, Mo., Operations.

By Randolph Heaster, The Kansas City Star, Mo. Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Jul. 2--Even as thousands of American Airlines employees worked their final shift Tuesday, the airline said it will soon announce more cutbacks that could affect its Kansas City maintenance base.

More than 3,100 flight attendants at American are furloughed today, including 1,778 who used to work for Trans World Airlines. Their layoff means that about 4,300 ex-TWA flight attendants who joined American in a 2001 merger are no longer working for the airline.
