Same-sex couples begin marrying in Massachusetts this week, and the choices they make when filing tax returns or moving to other states will lead to litigation challenging U.S. laws, according to some financial planners and lawyers.

About 15 advisers based in Massachusetts met informally last week to discuss financial planning issues surrounding gay and lesbian marriages. These members of the PridePlanners Association - a West Rutland, Vt.-based group of financial professionals who educate others about planning for gay clients - said
