Polk County, Fla., Economy Shows Signs of Life in December.

Feb. 18--LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Polk County economy is beginning to show it has recovered from the national recession, according to The Ledger's December Business Barometer, driven by robust employment and home construction activity.

The county's unemployment rate in December was the lowest in almost three years, and local companies employed 193,000 non-farm workers, the highest number since the Agency for Workforce Innovation began keeping records in 1953.
