The Olive Tree coalition, headed by economist Romano Prodi, is geared towards the improvement of Italy's economy which has only grown by 0.7% in 1997. The Ciampi cure, proposed by Prime Minister Carlo Azeglo Ciampi, is so far effective although it has only initiated minimal growth. Economic studies claim that reforms in Italy's economy may not be achieved as easily as expected since anti-government political movements are growing.
